It has been a usual sight on BTS Skytrains and MRT underground trains that every other seat in the train must be left empty to enforce social distancing in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic. From July, the strict measure of the mass rapid transport will be relaxed allowing passengers to sit side by side each other.

Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob revealed at the media briefing yesterday (17 June) passengers coming together or from the same family are not required to leave an empty seat when sitting on the trains. Wearing a face mask, however, is still compulsory when using the BTS and MRT service.

The lift of social distancing measures will also extend to other transports such as public buses, except for those that require passengers to be in the vehicles for more than 50 minutes.
