Just two weeks ago, the World’s 50 Best Bars revealed its extended 50-100 list, showcasing two Bangkok bars – Mahaniyom Cocktail Bar and Vesper – that earned their spots thanks to votes from 700 independent drinks experts around the globe. Since then, all eyes have been on the big reveal. On October 22, the final list of this year’s top bars was announced, with two Bangkok venues making it into the elite ranks.
This year’s awards ceremony took place in Madrid, Spain, celebrating the best bars of the year and shining a spotlight on their exceptional mixology, outstanding hospitality and creative menu offerings.
Leading the charge for Bangkok is BKK Social Club, which proudly secured twelfth place this year, a step up from last year’s thirteenth. Situated in the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok, this bar is no stranger to accolades, having previously clinched the No. 7 spot on Asia's 50 Best Bars earlier this year. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant parallels between Buenos Aires and Bangkok – where excellent drinks, lively gatherings and unforgettable nights thrive – BKK Social Club is helmed by Berlin native and industry veteran Philip Bischoff. The drinks menu is a spirited homage to Argentinian culture, showcasing inventive creations such as the Hands of God, inspired by the legendary Argentine footballer Diego Maradona.
As the highest-ranked bar in Bangkok, Philip Bischoff shared his thoughts with Time Out Bangkok:
“Honestly, we’re just so proud to be recognised among the world’s best bars. It’s a reflection of the hard work and creativity of our entire team – everyone from the bar staff to the hosts, the kitchen crew and everyone behind the scenes. We're all about creating moments that make guests feel special and it’s humbling to see that dedication acknowledged. At the end of the day, it’s about continuing to do what we love: making great drinks and making people feel at home.”
New to the list this year is Bar Us, which makes its debut at No. 41. Fresh off its entry into Asia's 50 Best Bars at No. 21, this Sukhumvit hotspot is steadily making waves in the cocktail scene. Known for its bold approach to mixology, Bar Us blends modern flavours with culinary ingredients, crafting cocktails that feel as layered and nuanced as dishes. A standout is their Jackfruit + Cinnamon Bark + Soy Sauce – a savoury twist on the Negroni made with jackfruit distillate, cinnamon bark, Campari, 1757 sweet vermouth, Aperol and a hint of soy sauce.
Reflecting on the thrill of making its debut on the list, co-owner 'Taln' Sudarat Rojanavanich shared with Time Out Bangkok that she felt both excited and surprised by the bar's inclusion. She noted that several cocktails contributed to the bar's recognition, but if she had to choose one, it would be the Beef and Onion, described as an Asian-style beef dish in a glass. This unique drink features beef jerky infused with Ketel One vodka, delivering strong savoury flavours.
While two Bangkok bars made it onto the list, Mexico City's Handshake Speakeasy was honoured as the best bar in the world, marking the first time a Mexican venue has claimed the top spot on this prestigious list.
