This October will see Bangkok hosting its own biennale, a large-scale art festival that involves various kinds of art created by an impressive amount of artists and exhibited in 20 different notable venues throughout the city, in this case, riverside, and along Silom and Sukhumvit. The Bangkok Art Biennale will feature more than 200 masterpieces from 75 Thai and international names from 33 countries, including celebrated Japanese artist Yayoi Kusuma.
Organized under the "Beyond Bliss" theme, the Bangkok Art Biennale acts as a platform for artists to express their thoughts toward social, political and environmental issues, as well as ignite locals on the sense of art and creativity. The citywide art fete is providing Bangkokians with free and up-close access to works from world-renowned artists at some of Bangkok's most notable landmarks, historical venues, and art galleries. There are also talks and discussions art buffs could also join.
Highlighted pieces include the hanging pumpkins by Yayoi "Auntie Dots" Kusama (formerly displayed at Ginza Six in Tokyo); a large-scale public participatory experience, The Ambramović Method, by grandmother of performance art Marina Ambramović; a playful installation by South Korean artist Choi Jeong Hwa; controversial art pieces by Chinese-born art talent Huang Yong Ping, Mamuang installation by Thai painter Wisut Ponnimit, and a series of physical experimental videos by Thai moving-image artist Kawita Vatanajyankur.
