This coming September, commuting in Thailand will be safer than ever, thanks to a new regulation requiring backseat passengers to fasten their seat belts.

The Royal Gazette announced the new rule on May 7, 2022. A fine of up to B,2000 will be applied to those who don’t buckle up. Individuals with certain health conditions are exempted. Those seated in front are still required to wear their seat belt.

The authorities also implemented the compulsory use of a car seat for children up to six years old.

Both of these accident-prevention measures will be in effect from September 5, 2022.
