These past few weeks, Bangkok has seen many popular venues bidding their last farewells to the city after periods of reopens and shutdowns causing them to lose the ability to carry on the businesses. Acclaimed fine dining restaurant Bo.lan, Cantonese-style hot pot place Coca Siam Square, and indoor playground Funarium were the big ones that decided to close for good.

This week, we have once again received such heartbreaking news from this popular all-day brunch place, Chu. "This week marks 10 and a half years since we opened our doors here in Exchange Tower and we will be soon closing them for good," the café announced the official closure on its Facebook post last Friday (May 21).

Chu is widely known as a chocolate bar and café located in Exchange Tower in Asoke. The eatery has opened for over a decade, dishing out homemade pastry and brunch essentials like buttermilk biscuits, waffles, and pancakes as well as its beloved hot chocolate. Chu elaborated in the post that the reasons behind this huge decision are mainly related to the financial damage from COVID-19 and issues with the landlord:

"For the past 14 months we have been holding our breath with one nostril barely above water hoping that the situation would improve or that the government and especially our landlords would finally be sympathetic to the impossible situation all of us are currently faced with in the f&b industry," wrote Chu.

With much sadness expressed in the messages, the restaurant also thanked everyone for the support and stated to run the business until May 30.
