From 29–31 March Anantara Hotels, Resort & Spas is organizing the inaugural King’s Cup Elephant Boat Race & River Festival, a charity sporting event on the banks of the mighty Chao Phraya River next to Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort.
Here are five cool reasons why you shouldn't miss this fun-filled event.
(1) It's the first of its kind with a cultural twist. This is the first elephant-themed dragon boat race, aiming to raise funds for elephant-related initiatives around Thailand. Graceful traditional Thai dancers, local Buddhist monks, revered Hindu Brahmin’s and 12 teams will officially open the event on Friday 29th March.
(2) Sporting action on the river and on land. Thailand's top paddlers including the Thai Navy Seals battle it out with international teams from China and The Philippines. If you are too competitive to remain a sideline spectator, you can join the indoor rowing competition, which is open for public on Friday 29th before watching professional rowers battling for the Asian Indoor Rowing Championships during the weekend.
(3) Fun on land for everyone. Enjoy the excitement of the races, beverage tents and vintage car show with plenty of fun activities for little angels from carnival games to creative painting workshops and interactive display. Friday and Saturday evenings also comes alive with concerts featuring popular Thai singers, namely Atom, J Jetrin, Singto Numchoke and New Jiew. Whilst on Saturday 31st, the ladies will have an excuse to get all dressed up in an old-Siam theme for a chance to win a trip to the Maldives and more. For street art lovers, come snap and share your cool picture with Thailand’s prominent graffiti artist Alex Face’s “Put Your Trunk Up!” creation.
(4) Great food from Bangkok’s finest restaurants. A host of Bangkok’s celebrated chefs and renowned restaurants will be serving up their signature dishes at the festival. Expect an array of quintessentially Thai culinary delights from the likes of TV Iron Chefs and revered Bangkok restaurants, wash it down with an indulgent artisan cocktail.
(5) Save the elephants and win a luxury holiday. With 100% of ticket sales going to the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation (GTAEF), who in turn will donate the proceeds to a wide range of elephant-related charities, attendees will be directly contributing to efforts to improve the welfare of Thailand’s elephants. Every ticket purchased also gives festival-goers a chance to win luxury Anantara hotel stays worldwide, including the Maldives!
