Who’s Valentina Ploy?

Valentina Ploy is a half-Thai, half-Italian singer/songwriter who was born and raised in Italy. Valentina is also a former contestant of The Voice Thailand and was a runner-up in Miss Universe Thailand 2018. This year, Valentina went all in with her singing career and released two singles with local record label, What the Duck. One of her songs, “See You in Life” has made it to Spotify’s Light and Easy list, which also includes songs by international artists, Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran.

What you probably don’t know about her

The artist writes all her songs, gathering inspiration from her own experiences. Her first two singles, “See You In Life” and “Wire,” are based on real personal stories. She claims that she was very shy as a child and writing became the best way to express everything she had inside.

Why a shy girl decided to join singing competitions

Valentina says her passion for music came naturally. She started singing and playing instruments at a young age, but mostly to herself. “I guess I didn’t have the courage to open up and share this part of me to other people,” she explains. The singer credits her best friend, who randomly shared a video of her singing on Facebook, for her turning point in the music industry. “I woke up, and suddenly everybody knew that I could actually sing.” Valentina then started posting more and more videos. When she was 21, she decided to apply for The X Factor (Italy), which is where it all started.

Her musical idol is actually a rock band

“Linkin Park is actually my favorite band,” the pop-folk performer confesses. “I like how he [lead vocalist Chester Bennington] puts all these pain and all the things he’s gone through into his music, and just sings it to people,” Valentina says.

Her plans aside from singing

She wants to write a book. “I’ve already started it. I’ve never really told anyone,” Valentina reveals. “The book is about how to look at life in a positive way. The biggest challenge in life, for me, is to keep being positive. I understand that it’s hard. So with this book, I wish I can lift people up a bit. But for now, my priority is still my music.”

What lies ahead for her

According to Valentina, music is her true calling. The young entertainer sees music as way of making a big difference. “My greatest passion is to give to people. Otherwise, life wouldn’t have meaning, and I see music as something that I can give to other people.”

What we can expect

Valentina is planning to release her third single before the year ends. Soon after, she will focus on making her debut album. She doesn’t see her musical style changing before then. “I have this identity and I don’t think I can super change, but I don’t know. Anything can happen. Never say never.”
