The government of Thailand has announced that the country will re-enter a stage of national mourning from 13 to 28 October, according to the royal funeral of His Majesty King Bhumibol, which will be taking place in Bangkok, from 25 to 29 October.
During this time, Thais are obliged to wear dark colors—ideally black—or white. Businesses must refrain from throwing parties or organizing over-the-top events.
This mandate doesn’t apply to visitors or expats. However, to avoid standing out, tourists may also want to consider dressing appropriately. Also, please note that the Grand Palace and nearby temples will be closed to the public during the royal funeral.
Visitors may find it inconvenient, but this is a trying time for Thailand and understanding is very much appreciated.
