After years of waiting and praying—and waiting again—Central Embassy’s crown jewel, the Park Hyatt Hotel Bangkok, is finally set for its soft opening this month. Time Out Bangkok sneaks in the back door to find out what this much-anticipated new hotel has in store for us.
Knowing the Park Hyatt brand
Park Hyatt is the Hyatt Hotel Group’s most affluent hospitality brand, inspired by the passions and lifestyle of Hyatt founder Jay Pritzker, who is also the founding father of the Pritzker Prize (the Oscars of architecture). The first, and oldest, Park Hyatt is located in Chicago, and is located in the Park Tower, right opposite a small park—now you know where the name Park Hyatt came from.
Inside story
Crowning posh retail temple, Central Embassy, this property is the 40th Park Hyatt in the world. Its interiors, courtesy of respected New York design firm Yabu Pushelberg, feature elegant Oriental motifs and contemporary Thai art against a predominantly sand-toned palette. Unlike many new five-star hotels, Park Hyatt doesn’t expose the vision to wide, open spaces. Instead, partitions, doors and partly confined nooks and crannies have been installed to evoke a feel of privacy. The hotel houses 222 rooms in ten categories, starting with the Deluxe Room, said to be among the largest of its kind in Bangkok with a minimum space of 68 square meters. The hotel’s most luxurious offering is the 381-square-meter Presidential Suite, which will be launched much later.
Space for art
To reflect the passion for arts of its founding father, Park Hyatt Bangkok injects different kinds of artworks throughout the hotel. Notable pieces include a modernized Buddha image by Thai contemporary artist Nonthivathn Chandhanaphalin and Japanese wunderkind Hirotoshi Sawada’s awe-inspiring reinterpretation of an ancient Thai pagoda and the sacred naga.
Fabulous facilities
The hotel’s pool promises to be the city’s most stylish, with regards to how it looks and the crowd it will attract. The Spa, which opens later this year, will be run by Panpuri.
Dining and wining destination
Three restaurants and bars—Embassy Room, Living Room, The Bar—will be ready to welcome guests when the hotel opens this month. The most anticipated outlet, however, is the Penthouse Bar & Grill, The triplex-style restaurant, which will only open in a few months, takes up residence on the 34th to the 36th floor.
