Tucked away inside Kimpton Maa-Lai’s clandestine restaurant, Ms.Jigger, an intimate bar seating just 16 people has emerged. Ruby’s the name, and gem-inspired cocktails of old-era Bangkok is the game.
Inspired by the drama of a shattered heart and the allure of gemstones, this small, plush space aims to offer a distraction from the world outside, every detail – from the soft lighting to cocktails, to bar bites – is comfortable and alluring.
The philosophy here is simple: “Cocktails are like kisses” – each one a delicate interaction on your lips that leaves you wanting more. With 14 cocktails and 2 mocktails, each drink also tells a story, each one linked to gemstones and their role in Bangkok’s vibrant history.
Highlights include the Ruby, a gin cocktail with jasmine, strawberry, pomegranate and hibiscus (B440) from which the bar takes its name; the Diamond, which mixes Tequila Blanco with creamy Hokkaido yoghurt liqueur, organic yoghurt and pear (B520); and the Emerald, featuring gin, mezcal, melon, mango sticky rice and a bold durian coconut foam (B480).
For the more adventurous, the Blue Sapphire combines vodka, elderflower, pear, butterfly pea, pear sake and blue spirulina (B460), while the Onyx offers a mix of vodka, Oloroso Sherry, tomato and black salt (B480).
And the curation doesn’t stop there. To complete the experience, a pairing-style menu of bar bites and nibbles complement the cocktails, sold in sets of three (B590), six (B1,090) and 11 (B1,690). Expect dishes like tempura oysters, red prawn tartare, seared foie gras and grilled Wagyu beef on brioche.
