Iron Balls has put Bangkok on the craft distillery map, producing batches of gin with a strong tropical note in a Germany-imported copper still at a bar-slash-distillery in the heart of Ekkamai. Further strengthening the brand’s image, the distillery has opened a new outpost in Phrom Phong, which focuses on heady libations with Iron Balls gin as the main ingredient.
Every inch of Iron Balls Gin Parlour reflects owner and designer Ashley Sutton’s over-the-top designs, which attempt to evoke a steampunk submarine with brassy details, sleek leather chairs and hard-hat diving masks. Empty distilling containers and gin bottles hang from the ceiling, giving you the impression of being submerged beneath countless bubbles drifting on the ocean.
The cocktails are designed by Iron Balls brand ambassador Carson Quinn who triumphantly brings out the unique characters of the juniper-based spirit. The refreshing character of Iron Balls gin is revealed in the well-rounded Cucumber and Bael Fruit Sour (B370) and the aromatic Charred Sandalwood Negroni (B380), although a simple gin and tonic (B380/B450) is definitely the perfect choice to fully enjoy the gin’s distinct flavor. Quinn also mixes concoctions that make use of other spirits, such as the smoky S.S. All Big Gun (B390), which combines Lunazul Reposado tequila with clove syrup and aromatic bitters. The cocktail bar is located steps away from Quince, making it the perfect place for a post-dinner nightcap and an ideal pre-game spot before heading to Sing Sing Theatre.
