Why we love it From the velvet armchairs to the expertly curated cocktail menu, The Shady Pig feels like stepping into the 1920s. That's once you've figured out the password (from its Instagram or WhatsApp, which changes daily) and hunted down the Gojek driver sign on the door. The staff dress the part too, adding to the experience. 

If there’s one drink to try, it’s the Nashi Sour (Dewar's, Nashi pear, smoked ginger, star anise, albumin, 200,000 IDR). It’s Instagram-worthy, but more importantly, delicious.

Time Out tip It's pretty tiny once you step inside, so you'll want to arrive early. By 10pm, there's almost always a queue.

Why we love it Hatch is part art installation, part cocktail bar, with its colourful murals, mosaic floors and eclectic furnishings. Visit during the daytime or early evening for the classic bar setting or after dark when, some nights of the week, it leans very firmly into ‘club’ category. The cocktails are equally creative, with options like the canang sari martini (gin, arak infused with local flowers, elderflower and lime, 140,000 IDR) bringing an extra fun kick to your evening. Pre-7pm, they're buy-one-get-one-free. 

The rooftop is perfect for enjoying the cool evening breeze, which you'll appreciate even more after enjoying the music downstairs, which ranges from salsa to drum and bass.

Why we love it As one of Bali’s first craft breweries, Black Sand is a must-visit for beer lovers. Their lineup of IPAs, stouts, and lagers pairs perfectly with their ever-popular loaded fries. The go-to place for expats on a Friday night, its happy hour offers of 50,000 IDR beers or wine ensure a busy crowd from 5 to 8 p.m. 

We recommend the Black Sand Pale Ale - a refreshing crowd-pleaser with tropical fruit notes. It’s the perfect spot to chill after a day of exploring Canggu.

Expect cocktails infused with local aromatics and incredible dessert pairings, which change seasonally. Whether you’re here for the creative drinks, the sweet treats or both, it’s a must-visit when you're next in Ubud.
