If you’re convinced that BMW drivers are always the first to honk their horns, that Holden drivers love cutting you off and that Audi drivers are just the biggest show-offs, you’re not the only one. Australians hold some serious stereotypes about their fellow drivers based on the cars they own, and a fresh survey reveals exactly which brands Aussies think are the absolute worst offenders for road rage, rudeness and just plain bad driving.
To uncover the stereotypes, iSelect asked more than 3,000 Australian drivers to pair eight common road traits – from rudest to most polite, and worst to best – with just one car brand from a list of the 20 most popular in Australia.
Sorry to any BMW drivers out there, as you’re in the hot seat. Aussies have crowned BMW owners as the rudest on the road, claiming almost a quarter (23.6 per cent) of all votes. To make matters worse, they’re also perceived as the worst drivers overall, with 11.3 per cent of the votes.
Holden drivers don’t exactly have the best reputation either – they came in second for the worst drivers title, trailing behind BMW drivers by just 0.1 per cent. However, they overtook BMW owners to claim the unfortunate titles of the most dangerous (15.7 per cent) and angriest drivers (19 per cent).
On the flip side, Toyota drivers are perceived as the angels of the road. They took out a triple whammy, being voted as the best (16.3 per cent), most polite (14.6 per cent) and second-most cautious drivers (10.1 per cent). You can check out what your car brand says about you here.
