Anyone who loves hitting the town has at least one Uber story that’s wilder than the night itself. Random Maccas runs, surprise karaoke sessions, heated debates and, yes, an unfortunate chunder or two. For the latter, you likely woke up not only to a violent hangover but also to an Uber rating you’d love to delete. But trust us, you’re not alone.
Want to know how your Uber score stacks up against the rest of Australia? Uber has dropped its Annual Rider Ratings for 2024, revealing which states and metro cities are cruising with the highest and lowest ratings across the country. As a baseline, the national average Uber rating currently sits at a solid 4.82 out of five stars.
Western Australia excels in many things… including having the worst-rated Uber passengers in the country. With an average rating of 4.79 (which is still pretty decent), the state’s capital of Perth also ranked as the metro area with the lowest average rider ratings in Australia. Victoria just missed out on last place, with an average of 4.80, with Melbourne also landing as the second-worst city for Uber ratings across the country.
On the flip side, New South Wales rose from second place in 2023 to claim the title of the highest-rated Uber riders in 2024. NSW’s second-largest city, Newcastle, ranked as the most polite city with an almost-perfect rating of 4.89. Meanwhile, NSW’s coastal city of Wollongong ranked third with an average score of 4.87 and Sydney followed in sixth with an improved rating of 4.84 (up from 4.83 in 2023).
