Scroll through the #Australia hashtag on Instagram and you’re bound to come across picture after picture of Bondi Beach, Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef. While these icons have rightfully earned their Insta fame, there are plenty of under-the-radar gems hiding in the hashtags. Now, a new study has revealed the ten most under-the-radar places that are primed for their time in the spotlight.
Be warned: this isn’t your typical ranking, and we mean that in a good way. The researchers at hotel chain Premier Inn weeded out Australia’s major landmarks to make room for lesser-known locations – so you won’t see another Harbour Bridge picnic or Opera House selfie here.
According to the hashtag data, Melbourne’s famous, graffiti-covered Hosier Lane is Australia’s most-snapped location (after excluding all the traditional landmarks). With an impressive 200,176 hashtags, it almost doubles the hashtag count of aesthetic Sydney café, The Grounds of Alexandria, which racked up 121,716.
The Sunshine State of Queensland claimed more top ten spots than any other in Australia, with the dreamy Noosa National Park ranking third (120,914 hashtags), the Sunshine Coast’s mammoth Eumundi Markets ranking fifth (68,344 hashtags), Brisbane’s lush 15-hectare New Farm Park ranking eighth (45,153 hashtags), and the Gold Coast’s idyllic Tallebudgera Creek ranking tenth (39,605 hashtags).
It goes without saying that Australia is full of countless Insta-worthy spots beyond this list of just ten. Take a squiz at the rankings below.
