The countdown is well and truly on for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with Queensland gearing up for a massive transformation. This week, the state government announced multi-billion-dollar plans for new sporting venues and transport upgrades, including a centrepiece 63,000-seat Olympic Stadium at Victoria Park. Big investments were also announced for sporting facilities in regional towns, like Townsville, Toowoomba, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast. But it’s not just the sports scene getting a glow-up – Queensland’s hotel boom is in full swing, with 30 new hotels (3,838 rooms) already open or under construction for the 2032 Olympics.
Since Queensland was named the host of the 2032 Games in 2021, the state has welcomed 19 sparkling accommodation options. Brisbane alone has gained seven new hotels, adding 1,375 rooms to the city’s growing skyline. These include Hotel X and Crystalbrook Vincent (both opened in 2021), Voco Brisbane City Centre and Hotel Indigo (2022), Amora Hotel and LyLo (2024), and most recently, The Star Grand Hotel (2025).

Brisbane’s hotel boom has expanded beyond the city, with 12 further stays adding 648 rooms across the state over the past four years – stretching from Cairns and Townsville to the Scenic Rim. With the exception of Ardo Hotel Townsville and TRYO by Wyndham Southport on the Gold Coast, the ten remaining properties are all boutique stays with between seven and 75 rooms. Among them are The Cheshire Cat Motel and The Tamborine, both of which opened in late 2024.

Currently, 11 more hotels are set to open across Queensland before the 2032 Olympics, adding an extra 1,815 rooms. Brisbane will score 783 of these, with Adina Hotel Chermside (expected 2025) and Kimpton Hotel (2028), plus The Dorsett and The Rosewood at Queen’s Wharf. Other highly anticipated hotel openings across the state include The Sundays on Hamilton Island (expected April 2025), Mondrian Gold Coast (May 2025) and The Calile Noosa (2028).
