When it comes to Australia's most iconic attractions, the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge are top of mind for most travellers. No trip to the land Down Under is complete without snapping a selfie under the shell-like white sails or riding a ferry under the famous ‘coathanger’. However, a new Aussie attraction has stolen the spotlight in Tripadvisor’s 2024 Travellers’ Choice Awards – and it’s hiding in plain sight in Perth.
Every year, Tripadvisor unveils its Travellers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best, spotlighting the highest-rated and reviewed destinations and travel experiences around the world. Earlier this year, a luxe adults-only resort in Queensland claimed the title of Australia’s best hotel, while Sydney’s Manly Beach was rated as the seventh best on the planet. Now, Tripadvisor has released its Best of the Best Things to Do, recognising the top-ten highest-rated attractions in Australia and the world from more than 8 million listings.
Step aside, Sydney! While the Emerald City dominated the rankings, claiming five of the top ten spots, Perth’s Kings Park and Botanic Garden was crowned as the very best attraction in Australia. This 399.9-hectare urban oasis is one of the world's largest and most beautiful inner city parks, boasting some of the greatest views in Perth. It was one of only two Aussie attractions to achieve a perfect five-star Tripadvisor rating based on almost 12,500 traveller reviews.
Within Kings Park and Botanic Garden there are attractions galore. You'll find: more than 3,000 species of flora unique to WA, stunning Swan River skyline views, native bushland, and walking trails that explore the deep connection the Nyoongar people (the native Aboriginal people of the southwest) have with the land.
One Tripadvisor reviewer described the park as: “An absolute gem in the heart of Perth! The views of the city skyline are breathtaking, and the lush gardens are perfect for a leisurely stroll. Don't miss the treetop walk – it's an incredible experience”.
