Stripping bare at the crack of dawn in six-degree weather might seem like an odd thing to do, especially surrounded by thousands of other brave Aussies. Yet, that's precisely the charm of Dark Mofo’s infamous Nude Solstice Swim.
Last Friday (June 21), a record-breaking 3,000 people sprinted down towards Hobart’s River Derwent at 7.42am for the swim – wearing red caps and nothing else. That’s ten times the number of swimmers who braved the icy waters at the inaugural event eleven years ago.
Even with MONA’s wild and wacky Dark Mofo festival running a reduced program in 2024, they couldn’t let go of this popular winter solstice celebration, held on the shortest day of the year. Here are some spicy snaps of the event.
Dark Mofo might be on pause in 2024, but you can look at our guide to the other greatest festivals in Australia this year.
