What’s on the program for Dark Mofo 2025?
Dark Mofo’s 2025 program is a lot to digest, so let’s start with the rituals. The Winter Feast will take over Princes Wharf and Salamanca Lawns throughout the festival, serving up global cuisines with a side of live music. Every Friday and Saturday, Night Mass: God Complex will transform a span of CBD blocks into a shapeshifting party featuring more than 100 artists and musicians. Finally, this year’s Ogoh-Ogoh ritual will solicit fears to feed a giant Maugean skate – an endangered species found only in Tassie’s Macquarie Harbour – crafted by Balinese artists. On Sunday 15 June, festivalgoers can join the procession from Parliament Lawns to Dark Park to witness the totem’s fiery sacrifice.
The 2025 art line-up features plenty of Australian exclusive artworks and performances. While the titles don’t give much away, you can look forward to a new, large-scale installation by multidisciplinary Aboriginal Tasmanian artist Nathan Maynard (‘We threw them down the rocks where they had thrown the sheep’), an immersive car crash experience by Paul Garcia (‘Crash Body’), and the Aussie premiere of a massive light installation from Nonotak (‘SORA’). Dark Mofo Films will also make its return to North Hobart’s State Cinema, while MONA will unveil a brand new exhibition, in the end, the beginning, where Italian sculptor Arcangelo Sassolino uses fire to spark a journey of renewal.
On the music front, this year’s program boasts 17 Australian-exclusive performances, including opening shows by trip-hop act Beth Gibbons. Also on the line-up are Philly wordsmith Tierra Whack, garage goths The Horrors, and art-punk band Crime and the City Solution. You can check out the full program, including regional concerts in Launceston and Ulverston, here.

When is the Nude Solstice Swim?
Despite running a reduced program in 2024, Dark Mofo couldn’t let go of its infamous Nude Solstice Swim – which saw a record-breaking 3,000 people plunge into the icy waters of the River Derwent wearing nothing but red caps. In 2025, the stripped-back swim will, of course, make a return a week after the festival ends on Saturday, June 2, at Long Beach in Sandy Bay.
