If you’re hoping to get in Glinda’s good books, you’ll need to brush up on your popularity game. Fortunately, Domain’s End of Year Wrap 2024 has just dropped, revealing the most sought-after suburbs across Australia this year. From a sweet village-like spot in Sydney to a surprise city entry in Brisbane and a coastal gem in Adelaide, these suburbs would no doubt earn the Good Witch’s tick of approval.

Let’s start with Sydney. The small, village-like suburb of Stanmore in the Inner West took out the top spot for the most views on Domain.com in 2024. Despite being so close to the city – and just two suburbs away from Chippendale, which Time Out named Australia’s coolest neighbourhood in 2024 – Stanmore maintains a laid-back, 'small country town' feel, where high-rises are replaced with greenery and spacious backyards. Local property agent Nicole Gerber of Gerber Properties says, “Everybody knows everybody in Stanmore. The people have been there for a long time. There are only a few different shops and businesses, and everybody’s been there for 30-odd years.”

One of Melbourne’s most charming and prestigious suburbs, Albert Park, took the crown as the most sought-after in 2024, and it’s easy to see why. Anyone who’s strolled along Port Melbourne Beach foreshore or explored the beautiful 225-hectare parkland will understand that this suburb really is the best of both worlds. The leafy streets lead you straight to scenic nature trails and trendy cafés, and are just a ten-minute walk from the city. As you wander, you can admire the many beautifully preserved Victorian and Edwardian homes, with the streetscape looking much as it did 150 years ago.

A seachange is highly sought-after in Adelaide too, with the charming coastal suburb of Glenelg South topping the search charts in 2024. While the lively beachside hub of Glenelg next door draws the crowds, Glenelg South offers a peaceful escape, perfect for those seeking a slower pace of life.

For the second year running, Hobart’s waterfront gem, Battery Point, ranked as the Tasmanian capital’s most viewed suburb in 2024. Its cobblestone streets and sandstone cottages tell stories of the island’s colonial past, offering a beautiful blend of old-world beauty and waterfront serenity. Meanwhile, Cullen Bay, a marina just west of Darwin’s CBD, held strong as the Northern Territory capital’s most popular suburb.

In a somewhat surprising twist, Brisbane City emerged as the most popular suburb in the Queensland capital for 2024. According to Domain, the rise in demand is driven by downsizers who are willing to trade space for a prime location.

Another surprise entry came from Perth, with semi-rural Gidgegannup ranking as the most-viewed suburb this year. Located about 40 kilometres northeast of the city centre, this quiet suburb is a mix of large properties and hobby farms, tucked among rolling hills and expansive bushland. Canberrans are also craving an escape from the city, with the bushy suburb of Aranda seeing the highest demand.
