It’s no secret that Australia is home to many of the world’s greatest beaches. With more than 10,000 of them dotted along our cheerful coastline, you’ll never run out of spots to get wet and wild. However, sometimes you just want to soak up the sun in solitude – far from the crowds, crying kids and Mr Whippy vans.
If you’re willing to swap soft serves for seclusion, Crayfish Beach is calling your name. This beautiful camping hideaway in the Whitsundays has just been named Australia’s most secluded beach in 2024. It also ranked as the second most hidden beach in the entire world, according to a brand new analysis by Betway. To find the ultimate hidden gems, the data experts evaluated the world’s 100 top “secret”, “secluded” and “hidden” beaches based on a number of factors, including Tripadvisor reviews, number of Instagram posts and nearby amenities – with fewer being better, as this points to the beach being more secluded.
With its deep blue waters and fringing reefs just metres offshore, Crayfish Beach in the Whitsunday Islands was ranked as the most secluded beach in Australia. This sheltered stretch of sand, located on the eastern side of Hook Island, is somewhat of a digital ghost, with zero Tripadvisor reviews and only 101 Instagram posts. You’ll want to come stocked with sunscreen and snacks, as there are no amenities or roads within 1.5 kilometres of the beach, which is accessible only by boat at mid to high tide.
Surrounded by two majestic mountains and beautiful bushland, Crayfish Beach wins bonus points for its secluded camping area where you can pitch a tent just metres from the shore. There’s only space for 12 people (six tents) to camp at a time, meaning you’ll often have the entire beach to yourself. Absolute bliss!
