Hobart, here we come! Tasmania’s darkly debaucherous festival Dark Mofo has today announced that it will make a grand return in 2025 after taking a break this year for a period of renewal. From June 5 to 15, the midwinter solstice festival will unleash a glorious whirlwind of artistic chaos, featuring a multi-sensory program of arts, music and ritual.
Despite running a reduced program in 2024, Dark Mofo couldn’t let go of its infamous Nude Solstice Swim – which saw a record-breaking 3,000 people plunge into the icy waters of the River Derwent wearing nothing but red caps. The stripped-back swim will, of course, make a return (a week after the festival ends on June 21) for Dark Mofo’s 11th edition, along with rituals Winter Feast, the Ogoh-Ogoh and Night Mass.
To celebrate its much-anticipated comeback, Dark Mofo is releasing a limited number of tickets to its signature event, Night Mass. This late-night extravaganza will transform every corner of the city – including Dark Mofo’s chaotic home base at the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) – into a vibrant tapestry of immersive art installations and mysterious music performances. Tickets go on sale on Tuesday, November 5, to those who have pre-registered via the Dark Mofo website. Stay tuned for the full Dark Mofo 2025 program details, which will be announced next year.
