It’s known as the happiest place on Earth and a dream holiday for every little (and big) kid – but for Aussies, Disneyland has always been a destination far, far away. Last year, speculation was swirling that Melbourne could be the next home of Mickey and Minnie – and now, a Victorian MP campaigning for the famed theme park to come Down Under has narrowed down his top three locations for the potential theme park.
During an interview on Channel 10’s The Project this week, Libertarian MP for Melbourne’s South East metropolitan area, David Limbrick, shared his shortlist of potential Disneyland locations, including Dandenong, Cranbourne, and Frankston. He claimed that all three suburbs in his electorate have enough land to house the theme park, along with solid transport infrastructure and a talented community of artists and performers.
This exciting update comes months after the American-based Walt Disney Company announced it would invest $60 billion into its theme parks over the next decade – sparking hopes that this includes international expansion.
There’s no doubt that Australians would jump at the chance to ride Space Mountain, hug our fave characters, eat pretzels as big as our heads and take adorable pics in front of Sleeping Beauty’s castle, but hold onto your Mickey ears, as nothing has been confirmed just yet.
Rumours have been flying that the iconic theme park could open in Melbourne for a while, and potential plans even got as far as Disney execs visiting Australia back in 2005 to scout locations, but sadly nothing eventuated.
We don’t care where it opens, we just hope this dream becomes reality. Stay tuned for more info as it comes through.
