Tiny treehouses, secluded seaside shacks, off-grid yurts and adorable tiny homes… Airbnb really does have it all. The best of the best properties and hosts have just been celebrated in the annual Airbnb Host Awards 2024, with categories like Best Design Stay, Best Family-Friendly Stay and Best Nature Stay.

Topping the list of Best Design Stays in Australia is a wildly-beautiful rainforest house on Sydney's Northern Beaches. The award-winning architectural masterpiece is hidden between palm trees on the edge of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. With floor-to-ceiling windows that bring the forest inside and flood the house with light, it’s a home that you won’t want to leave – with a palm-flanked outdoor pool and a long outdoor table for lunches that roll into night.

Joining Palm Pavilion on the list of NSW winners is a huge ten-guest house in the north-eastern coastal town of Bogangar, which claimed the title of Best Family Friendly Stay in Australia. The colourful seven-bed home is an ode to the pastel-hued hotels of Palm Springs – with an open-plan kitchen space that’s made for family lunches, and a sprawling outdoor space opening onto a resort-style pool.

Further south, in the dreamy beach town of Bermagui, you’ll find the best nature stay in Australia for 2024: a magical shack on the banks of the pristine Wallaga Lake. With an outdoor hot tub overlooking the lake and sunrise views from the queen-sized bed, the rustic shack manages to walk the line between luxurious and down-to-earth.

With a near-perfect 4.99 rating on Airbnb, Tracy and Adrian’s cosy, coastal studio on the Sunshine Coast won them the title of Airbnb’s Australian Host of the Year in 2024. They earned extra praise for their personalised welcome message, complimentary goodies, and the free kayaks guests can use to explore the local waterways just 50 metres from the front door.

Perched high on a hill in a McLaren Vale vineyard, this repurposed Redhen railcar is easily one of South Australia’s coolest Airbnbs. Owners Carly and Andrews took home the 2024 Best New Host award for the carriage’s cosy fit-out and thoughtful touches, including welcome snacks, fresh flowers and complimentary local wines.
