Time Out says

Light the fire, dim the lights and cue “Lumiere, darling”. In fact, play Ed Sheeran on repeat because those words echo through the walls at Lumierè Lodge, a beautiful Victorian-style homestead in the leafy foothills of West Hobart.

Rich in colour and character, this three-bedroom lodge is a perfect escape from big city life – yet it’s only a five minute drive from Hobart’s city centre. Cancel all your plans though because after checking in, you simply won’t want (or need) to leave.

Over the course of five years, owners Kerran and Samuel Langley lovingly restored this 1800s home, once listed under the National Trust, to its former glory. The thoughtfully curated rooms blend history and mystery, adorned with old-world knick-knacks, vintage books, antique oil paintings and polished brass switches. Crystal chandeliers add a touch of romance, along with beeswax candles and dried foliage collected from the surrounding streets.

Making yourself at home in Lumierè’s open-plan kitchen and dining area is almost too easy, especially with its seamless flow through bi-fold doors to a sunny courtyard. Summers would be well-spent here, firing up the barbecues and laughing late into the night. Meanwhile, the cooler months invite intimate candlelit dinners in the velvet green dining nook.

When the noise dies down, you can cosy up with complimentary whisky beside the crackling flames of the traditional baker’s oven fire, or retreat to one of the two clawfoot baths where you can melt away under the warm glow of the stained glass window. As darkness falls, sink into a plush king or queen-sized bed, dressed in linen sheets and warmed by electric blankets.

When the sun rises, you’ll rediscover the whimsy and wonder of Lumierè all over again. Morning light streaming through the windows will lure you into the traditional English kitchen, which is a romanticist’s dream with a full steam oven, premium Neff appliances and a deep farmhouse sink that gazes out over the native fern garden.

You won’t need to dash to the shops, as breakfast is on the house. Slice into a thick loaf of Pigeon Hole Bakers' sourdough, then lather on locally sourced butter, leatherwood honey and mixed berry jam. Or go for a hearty fry-up with farm-fresh eggs and premium bacon. The day ahead is now all yours to explore every nook and cranny of this incredibly handsome abode.

Trust us, Lumierè Lodge will serenade your soul and you’ll only leave wishing you’d stay an extra night. So take this as your sign, darling.
