Exmouth in Western Australia is known for being home to some of the most incredible beaches in the world. At remote Mauritius Beach on the North West Cape, you are right on the Ningaloo Reef, which means that you're basically in heaven. With very few people around, you can expect a giant stretch of white sand, turquoise water and (if you're very lucky) baby sea turtles hatching. This beach is just a five minute walk from the car park nearby, but doesn't have any access to toilets, food or shade – so come prepared.
Australia is home to some of the most incredible coastlines on the planet, and happily for those who prefer swimming sans swimmers – we’ve also got boundless nudist beaches to share for those who like to bare it all.
Although there are plenty of ‘unofficial’ nudist beaches Down Under, we recommend sticking to the ones where you can’t get in trouble with the law for leaving your clothes at the door (or invisible sand barrier). Every state except Queensland has a legal nude beach on offer, with major cities like Sydney even having multiple stretches of sand where you can comfortably get your kit off without fear of being arrested.
Are you a nudist beach first-timer?
Rest assured – Australia's nudist beaches are much like the rest of this sunburnt country – laid back, relaxed and lacking in high expectations. Just remember the cardinal nudist beach rules: don't stare, be respectful, no photos, bring sunscreen – and as always, swim at your own risk, because these beaches (for obvious reasons) aren't patrolled.
