This film is part of our "In Case of No Emergency: The Films of Ruben Östlund" series that features films from the Swedish director Ruben Östlund. For more information about the series, please visit: http://www.austinfilm.org/retrospectives-and-themed-series/series-ruben-ostlund
Preceded by Ruben Östlund's short film AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL SCENE NUMBER 6882
Ruben Östlund's first narrative feature. Most of his previous films had been skiing documentaries. Here he uses a style evocative of documentaries to show the day to day perambulations of some various outsiders in Gothenberg Sweden, with the central figure being a developmentally disabled young man who plays guitar. It's a seeminly chaotic narrative that creates meaning from tiny scraps of seemingly diffuse information.
