Good news: You don't have to wait until the WEST Austin Studio Tour to get your art walk fix. Held on Friday, April 6, from 6 to 9pm, the inaugural First Friday Art Walk will feature four art galleries showcasing talented local artists—and, since this is Austin, there will be plenty of free food, music, drinks and giveaways.

Twyla, OLA Gallery, Den Property Group and Art.Work Austin have all banded together to produce the event, with each independent gallery bringing something unique to the table. At Twyla, visitors can check out the work of local artists Rebecca Rothfus Harrell and Terra Goolsby, all while enjoying light bites, drinks and live music by Austin band American Dreamer. Den is currently showing the Marfa artist Moritz Landgrebe, and will provide a DJ, a special guest performance and drinks from Tito’s Vodka and Gem & Bolt Mezcal. Jonas Criscoe’s series Quiltings is on view at OLA Gallery, where you'll also be able to sip on free drinks from Tito's and Juiceland, and a number of artists (Jessica Engle, Ashley Shelton, Dave Noriega) are showing at Art.Work Austin (they're serving free drinks and snacks, too).

The First Friday Art Walk is an effort to bring awareness to downtown's growing independent art scene, and to provide a space where the community can easily access local art—without, say, the commitment of exploring a museum for a whole afternoon.
