Pop-Up Magazine first came to Austin in March 2017, and since then, you may have heard murmurings about this live-action magazine show—a hard-to-place, wondrous mash-up of storytelling, live music, visuals, podcast recordings and other performances. Wonder no longer about what you missed: its "Winter Issue" is coming to Austin on February 21, with a one-night-only show at Hogg Auditorium.
Think of the show as a magazine come to life, its articles and photos and, yes, even ads materializing on stage as journalists, musicians, poets, filmmakers and other creatives breathe life into their work. This winter tour—which will make stops in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Washington D.C., Atlanta, New Orleans and Austin—is a who's who of photojournalists and producers, novelists and staff writers from some of the country's best magazines. Watch segments from filmmaker Veena Rao, National Geographic photographer David Guttenfelder, The Nod podcast co-hosts Brittany Luse and Eric Eddings, photojournalist Kirsten Luce and more—and cherish their true stories while they're on stage, as Pop-Up Magazine doesn't include them online after the tour wraps.
Tickets to the show can be purchased here, with doors opening at 6:30pm and the show starting at 7:30pm. See a performance that particularly moved you? Stick around afterwards, when performers, producers and the audience get together for drinks and conversation.
