Tiki bars were first formed as a means of escapism, popping up in Southern California in the 1930s and serving as a temporary getaway for Americans craving warmer weather. Sound familiar? After all this ice and snow, we're in need of a hefty dose of tiki—and Pool Burger's doing us a solid with a tiki cocktail for the ages.
The new burger spot and bar sandwiched between Deep Eddy Pool and Deep Eddy Cabaret is offering the Shark Bait cocktail while supplies last. Made with Bounty Dark Rum, J. Wray Overproof Rum, blue curacao, banana liqueur, coconut and lime, the drink is poured over crushed ice in a shark glass and then drizzled with “blood” syrup. Killer.
If you want the cocktail and mug, it'll cost you a cool $19. Without the mug, your shark-infested drink will be served in a Mai Tai glass for $12.
The drink may look slightly familiar to you, especially if you've recently moved here from New York; Mother of Pearl in Manhattan's East Village serves up a similar concoction called the Shark Eye. But it's going to be 70 degrees this weekend in Austin as opposed to NYC's 50, so we'll take our patio weather with our shark cocktail, thank you very much.
