Is downtown Austin the best neighborhood for bars and restaurants right now?

Last month, we shared some pretty fascinating results from our Time Out City Index Survey, a global survey where we asked y'all a bunch of questions about living, working and playing in Austin. We found out that tacos are lifeblood (obviously), almost half of you own homes (41 percent, to be exact) and that Austinites have more workplace relationships than any other city in the U.S.

Well, we've dissected the results even further to hone in on the neighborhoods that make this city great, and it turns out there's some fierce love for downtown Austin. The neighborhood swept its competitors in two categories: Best Neighborhood for Fun, and Best Neighborhood for Food and Drink (East Austin came in second for both). There's plenty of fun to be had downtown, from clubs and museums to live music venues and shopping. But in a neighborhood that was often seen as having lackluster lunch options, downtown's food and drink scene has recently started ramping up, with the arrival of Austin's first food hall, Fareground, and a handful of relative newcomers (Red Ash, Academia, Le Politique). Seems like everyone is appreciating the city center's culinary makeover.

Another deep dig into the results found that Austin was ranked #3 (among the cities that were surveyed) for music and nightlife. We're not too surprised about that, though—where better to see a show than the live music capital of the world?
