In theory, every day should be Earth Day, but sometimes we need a little nudging when it comes to showing love to Mother Earth. In addition to all the recycling and composting that we should be doing on a regular basis, there are a handful of events happening this weekend that may inspire us to take care of our planet just a little bit more. After partaking in festivities this Earth Day—Sunday, April 22—be sure to extend your green practices throughout the year.
Drink clean cocktails: Drink.well is opening early on Sunday with a special menu of sustainable Patron tequila cocktails. From 2 to 5pm, a short menu of drinks will include repurposed, upcycled or recycled ingredients (the Tiki-la Colada, for example, is served in a hollowed-out pineapple with a lemongrass straw). Proceeds go towards Pease Park Conservancy and the Burning Green in the North Loop neighborhood.
Go foraging in Driftwood: Vista Brewing just opened on Friday, but they've already got plans for an Earth Day weekend. The brewery, which sits on a stunning 21 acres, is offering foraging classes on Saturday at 11am and 4pm, and free tree saplings from TreeFolks on Sunday starting at 11am. Saplings are available on a first come, first serve basis.
Eat the Earth: CHIX Brunch is hosting a special Earth Day brunch at Texas Keeper Cider on Sunday, with Indian-Texas trailer Puli-Ra providing the food, all made with locally-sourced and seasonal ingredients. Kids can stop by the seed bomb-making table courtesy of La Flaca Urban Farm (who will also be bringing peppers, plants and salt blends), while adults can purchase local honey from Two Hives Honey. Tickets are $10 and go towards Urban Roots, an Austin organization that uses food and farming to inspire young people.
Adopt a Plant: On Saturday from 1 to 5pm, Paper + Craft Pantry is hosting an Earth Day party, complete with an Adopt-A-Plant Stand, a flower bar, DIY stations and free themed sips and treats. Register for the party here.
Stretch for a cause: Head to Native Hostel on Sunday for a special yoga class and brunch. Yoga instructor Lizzie Aguirre will lead a meditative session; afterwards, stick around for juice from Juice Society and Native Hostel's decadent brunch. Donations go toward the Austin Parks Foundation.
