Before Hamilton sent musical lovers into a frenzy, The Book of Mormon was one of Broadway's most coveted shows. The comedy was first staged in 2011 and has since toured the country, sharing a story about two Mormon missionaries in a Ugandan village who are trying to navigate cultural differences and their own faith. Written by Trey Parker and Matt Stone (of South Park fame), as well as Robert Lopez (who wrote the music for Avenue Q), the show is an incredibly successful mix of humor, human tenderness and pure shock value—and it's making its way back to Austin, running from April 17 to April 22 at Bass Concert Hall.
Because of its cult status, The Book of Mormon is so popular that getting tickets to one of the performances can be a feat. Which is why we were so psyched to hear about the lottery program: two and a half hours before each night's performance, you'll be able to write down your name and desired number of tickets (two max) on a provided card. Names will then be drawn at random for $25 tickets (regular tickets start at $46 and run upwards of $174). There are a couple rules, of course: winners must be present at the time of the drawing, you'll need to show a valid ID to purchase tickets, and there's a limit of one entry per person. Still, if you're up for hanging around Bass Concert Hall for a bit while they make the drawing, it's definitely worth a shot.
Don't want to try your hand at the lottery? There are select tickets left which can be purchased here. Shows start at 8pm on Tuesday through Friday, with two performances on Saturday (2pm and 8pm) and final performances on Sunday (1pm and 7pm).
May the odds be ever in your favor.
