New year, new watering holes that need to be conquered. It's a good thing, then, that Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden has finally put the finishing touches on its South Austin cafe, and is now scheduled to open to the public on Monday, January 8. Here's hoping you didn't decide to give up coffee or beer this month.

The neighborhood bar and café from partners Paul Oveisi and Patrick Dean will offer the oh-so-Austin combo of booze and caffeine, including draft cocktails, kombucha, cold brew, wine and coffee cocktails. At the bar—restored from an old auto repair shop—the 21 taps will feature local, Texas brews, and the liquor shelves will put a special emphasis on tequila and mescal. And the food? Cosmic has wisely positioned itself next to LeRoy and Lewis, which serves killer new-school BBQ and recently partnered up with Rosen's Bagels to offer a breakfast menu (hello, barbecue bagel sandwiches).

But the real feat at Cosmic is the outdoor green space, an acre of vibrant landscape that includes a certified wildlife habitat, an ecological pond, a rainwater catchment and irrigation system, and a 1900s horse-drawn carriage that serves as a chicken coop. There's also a dedicated composting program, and an herb and vegetable garden that forms the garden-to-glass cocktail offerings. When it's finally not freezing out, the patio space will be a perfect spot to lounge, eat and drink.

Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden's opening hours are Mon-Thu, 7am-midnight; Fri-Sat, 7am-1am. The bar is located at 121 Pickle Road at the corner of South Congress.
