Austin, meet your new breakfast spot. And lunch spot. And dinner, cocktail or cup-of-coffee-and-then-bounce spot.
Better Half officially opens tomorrow, February 27, but according to Eater the café has already opened for limited service (Translation: Stop by today before it gets too crazy). Started by the Wright Bros. Brew & Brew folks, Better Half serves a friendly menu of breakfast sandwiches, grain bowls and burgers, along with heftier items like chicken fried steak, pickle brined fried chicken and Texas redfish from chef Rich Reimbolt (Josephine House). You'll find biscuits with Tasso ham, house preserves, and honey and jalapeño butter, as well as sides that include hushpuppies, cauliflower tots and fries. And for dessert? Beignets, buttermilk pie and s'mores cake are all available for a sweet ending, courtesy of pastry chef Jennifer Tucker.
If you're looking for more of a watering hole, Better Half has that covered, too. Cocktails (both draft and made-to-order), wine and beer range from the Taurino Garcia (Banhez Mezcal, lime, grapefruit, curaçao, Fernet Vallet and a spiced salt rim) and the Yes Ma'am (Old Overholt rye, apricot liqueur, honey, lemon, persimmon bitters) to local beers from Hops & Grain, St. Elmo and Jester King Brewery. Coffee beans come from Heart Roasters and Flat Track Coffee.
Better Half is located at 406 Walsh Street. Stop by on Monday from 7am to 3pm; Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday from 7am to midnight; and Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7am to 2am.
