It may have been a while since your last trip to New Orleans—or maybe you've never been there at all—but the raucous city is coming to Austin next month in the form of the Austin Food & Wine Alliance's 7th annual Wine & Swine, a popular fall event that raises money for culinary grants.
The event, which boasts a New Orleans theme this year, revolves around a pig roast: 25 chefs will be cooking up pork dishes and whole roasted pigs in their own style, including slow-cooked overnight. The chef lineup is a who's-who of talented culinary giants, including Aaron Franklin (Franklin Barbecue), Evan LeRoy (LeRoy & Lewis), Michael Fojtasek (Olamaie), Max Snyder (Pitchfork Pretty), Sterling Ridings (The Guild) and a slew of other talented chefs. And because this is New Orleans-inspired, the Gulf Coast Playboys will be providing musical entertainment while mixologist extraordinaire Chris Hannah (Arnaud’s French 75), will be curating some insanely delicious cocktails (like the Amaryllis Sling and the Pableaux Martinez).
This will be Wine & Swine's first time at Camp Mabry, the third-oldest active military installation in Texas that boasts a spacious, grassy picnic area where attendees will be able to wander, pork dishes in hand. Advance purchase tickets are now available for $85, while a VIP pass is going for $135 (this includes early entry, a bamboo plate and special tastings). Once on site, attendees will be given a token to vote for their favorite pork dish, as well as one for their favorite wine; winners will be announced at 3pm.
Wine & Swine takes place on November 19 from 1-4pm at Camp Mabry.
