It's the (holiday) weekend! You've worked hard to get to this point, so you deserve to play hard, too. We've curated our favorite events happening around Austin for the next few days, from pop-ups to festivals to grand openings—all you have to do is round up your crew. Have a great weekend, y'all—and a happy 4th of July!
Get pee-in-your-pants terrified at Jaws on the Water: Starting this weekend, Jaws on the Water invites adventurous movie goers to five weekends of immersive screenings at Volente Beach Water Park, complete with shark-themed tubes that you'll float on throughout the two hour and ten minute movie (you'll get to keep those tubes, too). Tickets, which run for $55, also include access to the water park, which features water slides, the Lazy Lagoon, a beachside bar and other attractions. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 6pm
Experience a blockbuster come to life with La La Land in Concert: The Austin Symphony Orchestra will perform Justin Hurwitz's award-winning score from the movie that briefly won Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Among its other accolades, though? Oscars for Best Original Score and Best Original Song. Friday at 8pm
Support a legendary Austin food writer at Batter Up for Virginia: Chefs from Sugar Mama's Bakeshop, Bonhomie, Play Dough and Texas French Bread are among those whipping up baked goods for a fundraiser for Virginia B. Wood, a former Austin Chronicle food editor who's suffering from serious health problems. Help by attending this bake sale in the Lenoir wine garden and enjoying bites like brisket kolaches from David Norman of Easy Tiger and Aaron Franklin of Franklin Barbecue. Saturday at 1pm
Catch seven excellent Sundance flicks at the Sundance Film Festival Short Film Tour: See seven films selected from this year's Sundance festival, including fiction, animation and documentaries, like "Ten Meter Tower." Watch the trailer here. Saturday at 5pm and Monday at 7:30pm
Tip your hat to our northern neighbors with a Canada Day Party: How about celebrating our nice neighbors before the 4th of July this year? Gibson Street Bar will have some of the finest imports from the Great White North ready for this Canada Day, including poutine and maple syrup (which you can find in the bar's cocktails). Bubble hockey, beer and live music are also on deck.
And if you have Monday and/or Tuesday off:
Celebrate ’Murica with the best 4th of July events: We've listed them all out for you, so that you'll have plenty to do on Independence Day. Enjoy! Tuesday at various times
