Sound on Sound Fest is canceled, shows will be rescheduled

In the midst of ACL's first day on Friday, Sound on Sound Fest, in what was supposed to be its second year, announced that they were canceling the music festival held at Sherwood Forest Fair. The festival was supposed to take place in five weeks, on November 10 through 12.

While organizers cited "roadblocks" on the fest's website, the Austin Chronicle reports that a major investor pulled out close to two weeks ago, and they weren't able to get other investors on board with such short notice. Refunds to ticket holders are already underway; everyone who purchased a ticket will be receiving 100% of their money back within the next five to seven business days.

If you were looking forward to seeing some of your favorite bands at Sound on Sound this year (Yeah Yeah Yeahs! Iggy Pop! Vince Staples!), festival organizers are working to reschedule as many acts as possible, placing them in venues around Austin with festival ticket holders getting first dibs on show tickets. But nothing has been solidified yet, and it will take some time to get everyone booked. Sound on Sound did note that presale tickets will be available October 16 to 19.

We're bummed to see such a great fest get scrubbed this year, but hopefully their individual shows—plus the return of LEVITATION early next year—will keep our festival fever fueled until SXSW. Keep an eye out on this space for Sound on Sound updates as we hear more.
