Summer isn't here yet, but it's about to get hot—really hot—in Austin soon.
Cult favorite Prince's Hot Chicken, a Nashville staple that spearheaded the rise of hot chicken across the country, is popping up in Austin for two days in May, bringing its fiery poultry to Independence Brewing Co. on May 9 and 10. It's the first time Prince's has ever come to Texas, so let's give them a warm welcome, shall we?
According to Eater Austin, the brief appearance is part of beer website October's Family Craft series, where families from restaurants and local breweries team up to produce the ultimate pairing. Andrew Prince Jeffries—Prince's third generation owner—will be working with Independence's Rob and Amy Cartwright to create a dinner extravaganza: fried chicken with fries, baked beans, potato salad and coleslaw, plus beer pairings. A ticket to the pop-up, which runs for $65 per person, will also include a tour of the brewery with tastings. When purchasing your ticket, choose from either a 6pm or 8:30pm dinner.
So what does this mean for the future of hot chicken in Austin? Jeffries tells Eater that while Austin isn't in the immediate cards for opening a Prince's branch, there's always a possibility. Hot chicken has been growing in popularity in cities like Los Angeles, where Howlin' Ray's draws hour-long lines and Hotville Chicken runs a weekly pop-up series. There's room in Austin for you, Prince's. Just saying.
