There's been a spate of breweries opening up around Austin recently (Celis Brewery, Friends and Allies, just to name a few), but for those who work or live in downtown Austin, those spots require a little more travel time. Now there's both a new brewery and winery opening in the area, meaning beer o'clock and Wine Wednesdays are just a short stumble away for downtown denizens.

Central District Brewing is set to open just down the street from the Austin Convention Center, with an opening date slated for late 2018. The 3,580-square-foot space, which is actually owned by the Convention Center, is located at 417 Red River St. Founded by Austin locals Julie Ballato and Angela Duley, Central District's beer will be made by head brewer Adam Duley, Angela's husband, who's background includes an apprenticeship at the famed The Lost Abbey and Port Brewing in California.

More of a wine fan? Another new downtown option is focusing on grapes instead. Texas Reds and Whites will open at 407 Red River St, and will offer over 100 award-winning Texas wines (plus more than 20 Texas beers). They're scheduled to open later this year, and will be open Tuesday through Sunday starting at noon.

Until then, we'll have to take advantage of all the other great craft beer spots and wine bars around Austin. Stay tuned for updates on both Central District Brewing and Texas Reds and Whites!
