We sent two courageous Austinites on a blind date along South Congress Avenue. Did they fall in love with more than just great queso?
The Drinks: Fine Foods
Erin: “When I first saw Adnan, I thought he was very striking. He has this great, shiny black hair and a lush beard. He seemed friendly right away. I had a piña colada.”
Adnan: “I was a few minutes late, and she was really nice about it. She’s an opera wig artist— I’ve never met anyone who does that for a living. The Cold Fashioned cocktail was killer!”
The Meal: Güero's Taco Bar
Erin: “Sometimes I say weird things, but I usually don’t feel awkward about them. I blew his mind by telling him that there is such a thing as bad queso. However, this queso was delicious.”
Adnan: “There weren’t really any awkward moments…. The camera guy following us around was funny. We both got tacos and chips and guacamole. The tacos were really good.”
The Fun: The Continental Club
Erin: “The Continental Club is always cool to pop into. The band sounded great, and we talked a little bit about how easy and natural the lead singer sounded.”
Adnan: “The music was good and the singer was talented; it just
wasn’t our kind of music. We ended up going to [the South Congress Hotel] afterward for another drink.”
The Verdict:
Erin: ♥♥♥ “[Blind dates] are kind of fading into history, so I think we were both into the idea. He invited me to a boat party that I wasn’t able to attend, but he did get my number, so who knows?”
Adnan: ♥♥♥ “We talked about meeting again, but I think I wouldn’t mind pursuing a friendship. Erin is a great person, but I don’t think we have a romantic spark or future.”
