Talk about an upgrade.
Car2Go recently announced that, over the next few months, it will start replacing those cute, compact Smart cars you see zipping around Austin—all 300 of ’em—with Mercedes-Benzes. The Benzes will be a mix of CLA four-door coupes and smaller SUVs (called GLAs), and are part of an effort to help start and operate Car2Go vehicles at a faster rate (the new Benzes include faster computers, and will drop the time it takes to access the car from 15 seconds to roughly three seconds).
Of course, driving your new, upgraded whip is going to cost a little extra. Car2Go will be raising its prices from $15 to $19 per hour for both the CLA and GLA. As of today, there is still an option to rent the Smart car for $15, though that won't be around too much longer. The process for renting a Car2Go hasn't changed—but you might need to start looking for bigger parking spots.
Will you be sticking with Car2Go as it changes from Smart cars to Mercedes-Benzes? Let us know in the comments below!
