Food halls—so hot right now. From NYC's Eataly to LA's Grand Central Market, the food hall trend has been rolling across the country, populating spacious warehouses and buildings with big-name chefs and newly launched eateries. Now the concept has arrived in Austin—and we're pretty stoked about who's going to be included in the vendor lineup.
Fareground is housed within One Congress Plaza (111 Congress Avenue), and operated by ELM Restaurant Group. The initial lineup features some familiar faces: Easy Tiger, Dai Due Taquería and Contigo, as well as Antonelli's Cheese Shop, Ni-Kome and Henbit & Honeybit. Don't expect exact replicas, though: Contigo Fareground will feature new, hall-specific dishes (though their beloved burger will still be on the menu), and Ni-Kome will be a mashup between Kome Sushi Kitchen and sister shop Daruma Ramen, with both Japanese eats featured on the menu. Henbit & Honeybit are actually two separate concepts behind the Emmer & Rye team; Henbit will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner, while Honeybit will be a cart serving ice cream and other desserts. A couple of bars will be in the lineup as well.
An opening date hasn't been set yet, but Fareground is aiming for sometime in the fall. “We envision Fareground as a meeting place where tourists and locals alike can pick and choose from a wide variety of cuisines crafted under one roof by Austin’s most-loved chefs—or just enjoy a drink in a park-like oasis in the heart of downtown," says Bob Gillett, one of ELM’s founders. Sounds pretty sweet to us.
