Venturing into Palmetto State Park may have you wondering if you’ve left Texas behind for somewhere more tropical; this small but lush park gets its name from the dwarf palmetto plant found all over the area. Since the San Marco River runs through it and there’s the four-acre Oxbow Lake, you can take advantage of swimming, boating, kayaking and canoeing. There are campsites for tents as well as those designed for RV campers. For visitors who want something a little more secluded, consider the group camping area bordered on three sides by the river.
