Time Out says

Besides "Live Music Capital of the World," did you know that one of Austin’s nicknames is "Bat City"? And for good reason, tooL The Congress Avenue Bridge is the world’s largest urban bat colony with a whopping 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats living underneath it. During summer nights, you can post up along the railing to watch them emerge for their evening meal. For a different view, head out on the water on a kayak, paddleboard or cruise, and you’ll get to see them fly out en masse overhead. It’s quite the spectacle, and something distinctly Austin.
