For many, Atlanta has come to be affectionately known as “the mecca of the south.” In a place filled with celebrities, tourist attractions, and multiple hubs for companies in technology, entertainment, and real estate, this city is truly like none other.

Culturally, Atlanta has inspired a generation, and due to its popularity as a travel destination, it would be difficult to leave any stone unturned – whether you’re a local or just here to visit. The heart of this city is much more than what meets the eye, and many of its lesser-known locales are a more genuine representation of Georgia’s capital. Here are five secrets of Atlanta to discover, as soon as possible.

1. Cat Eye Creative

Located in the ever-evolving downtown Atlanta, this studio and gallery space founded by Adam Crawford houses hundreds of artists and designers from across the world. From fine art curation and consulting, artist residency programs and large-scale mural installations, Cat Eye Creative is a progressive art space for a new generation. The gallery serves as the host for contemporary solo and group exhibitions, live music, and art events, along with private dinners and screenings.

2. Dekalb Farmers Market

Founded, owned, and operated by Robert Blazer, along with his wife and son, the Dekalb Farmers Market is a 140,000-foot warehouse filled with fresh produce, seafood, meat, cheese, bakeries, and a floral department. Open 7 days a week from 9am to 9pm, there's also an on-site restaurant which is perfect to meet friends in, or just to rest and regain the strength needed for carting home a week’s worth of groceries.

3. Main Street in College Park

A budding community that exudes an entrepreneurial spirit, College Park’s Main Street is your destination for all things creative. On the wall of Paper Plane Art studio you'll find a beautiful mural painted by Yoyo Ferro. Admire it while making your way to one of the city's best yoga classes. Refuel afterwards at local faves like Brake Pad, China Wok, or Noodle, or try one of the upcoming spots like Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen & Bar, Real Milk & Honey, Tom, Dick & Hank, or Nouveau.

4. Delta Flight Museum

Located in Delta’s original 1940’s-era aircraft hangars, this museum is a world-class attraction filled with intriguing exhibitions about the history and future of aeronautics.

Sadly, many of the city’s locals have yet to visit the Delta Flight Museum – but more fool them. This museum might sound like it's only for those with an interest in aircraft, but it's actually a genuinely interesting fact-filled space within earshot of one of the busiest airports in the world.
