The metro area is teeming with pizza joints of all stripes, but where can you find the best pizza in Atlanta? It’s hard to make a bad pizza, but if you’re looking for pies that are delicious, authentic and made with top ingredients, here are the top spots. Atlanta pizzerias specialize in everything from certified Neapolitan pies and New York slices to big slabs prepared Sicilian or Detroit style. Grab a slice at a neighborhood dive (a late night slice is perfect after a night out at Atlanta’s bars) or sit down for a pie and a carafe of Italian wine. Check out pizzerias topping their pies with hefty amounts of meats or veggies, or opt for a more refined version with specialty sausages and cheeses. There’s even a vegan pizzeria that’s earned raves. Whatever your pizza preference, you can find a top version in Atlanta, and for a perfect combo, pair your pie with a brew from one of Atlanta’s many renowned breweries.

Head to Firewall in Westview for wood-fired pizzas and sandwiches. The pizza is mostly Neapolitan-style, with a perfectly charred, bubbly crust topped with fresh ingredients. Meat lovers should try the Farmer, made with fennel sausage, sweet peppers and mozzarella, while vegetarians will love the Gardner, topped with spinach, tomato, ricotta, lemon and garlic. Sandwiches are impressive too, like the Fertile Crescent stuffed with ten-spice chicken, pickles, greens, poached raisins, walnuts and Zhoug.

Born in Nashville, found all over Tennessee, but right at home in Atlanta, this hip-hop-inspired joint has two locations—in the Westside Provisions District and on Metropolitan Parkway. Test your knowledge of hip-hop and R&B artists as you peruse the menu: the Rony, Roni, Rone! is topped with three kinds of pepperoni, Cee No Green is piled with meats, while Nothin But a V Thang is all veggies and vegan toppings. Go for a “slim” (10-inch) or “husky” (16-inch) pie and finish up with a cinnamon roll topped with various cream cheese flavors and sweet toppings.

Giovanni DiPalma’s pizza empire features some of the best Neapolitan pizza in town. Pizzas are lovingly-crafted using old-school techniques and baked in a 900-degree over for the perfect flavor and texture. You’ll find traditional versions of both red and white pizzas including the margherita, diavola and bianca, all topped with fresh ingredients. Calzones are equally impressive. Visit the original location in DiPalma’s “Little Italy” complex in West Midtown or additional locations in the Battery at Truist Park or Avalon in Alpharetta.

A massive slice at Fellini’s is just $2.95. Add in multiple locations (seven are conveniently scattered around the city) and late night hours and you’ve got yourself a pizza institution. Grab your friends and feast on a large pie and some drinks for a filling, affordable dinner to start or wrap up the night. Pizzas are straightforward and delicious, whether traditional crust or the thick Sicilian version. Calzones and salads are worthy options too.

Get a taste of New York City at Junior’s in Summerhill. The thin-crust and Sicilian-style pizzas are inspired by classic pizzas found throughout NYC. Go for a slice or a full pie. Options are aplenty, with white, red, thin crust, Sicilian and vegan versions on the menu. Toppings are fresh and flavorful. For the full NYC experience, Junior’s offers Mike’s Hot Honey, a Big Apple condiment sensation that makes pizzas go from “great” to “amazing.”

There are now two locations of Luca Varuni’s popular Neapolitan-style pizzeria—in Morningside and at the Krog Street Market. Both offer excellent white and red sauce pizzas, including the popular Bastardo topped with mozzarella, pepperoni, Ndjua and pecorino Romano. The Morningside location offers take-home kits to make your own margherita pizza. Brunch is also available at that location, with bloody marys and breakfast pizzas topped with the likes of fig jam and prosciutto. Both locations offer takeout, wine, beer, a selection of cocktails and desserts.

This family-run business (a father and two sons, all with “J” names) started out as a popular food truck then graduated to a brick-and-mortar in Midtown. Choose from thick, square Detroit pies or thin-crust New York style pizza. Both are top notch representations. Grab a slice of either style, a whole pie with classic toppings or a specialty version like “Da Meats,” chicken alfredo or vegan. Alongside the pizzas, Triple Jay’s serves up seriously tasty wings.

Brick oven pizzas, specialty cocktails, craft beer and wine, all in unique, industrial-chic environs make Firepit Pizza Tavern a popular neighborhood pizza spot in Grant Park. Grab a drink and a slice or share a few pies with friends. Twelve-inch red or white pizzas are topped with everything from roasted veggies to spicy capicola and honey ricotta. Salads and sandwiches are also available. Both street corn and spicy wings are cooked in the firepit and are not to be missed.

This spot on Edgewood calls its pizzas “Neapolitan influenced.” The crust is thin and bubbly, made with 00 flour and baked in a 900-degree wood fired oven as per tradition. But rather than restricting ingredients to Italian imports, these pizzas are topped with locally-grown produce and other regionally-sourced ingredients. The popular Inferno, for example, is topped with spicy soppressata from Spotted Trotter. With more than 30 beers on the menu, it’s a great spot for beer-and-a-pizza. The space is welcoming, with plenty of outdoor seating.

The kitschy, 70s pizza parlor vibe perfectly suits the classic pies—straightforward and delicious, served with classic toppings like sausage, pepperoni or veggies—served here at Lloyd’s. Classic cocktails complement the menu, so you can sip a martini or a manhattan with your salad and mozzarella sticks (or stick with an ice cold beer). In addition to pizza, Lloyd’s offers crab leg dinner specials, meatloaf and a tasty spinach and artichoke dip.

Craving a giant slice of foldable, Brooklyn-style pizza? Glide on over to the takeout window at Irwin Street Market in the Old Fourth Ward. Pies and slices are available for takeout or for delivery via electric bike. Choose a red sauce or garlic and olive oil base for your pizza, and top with cheese or pepperoni. A few other toppings are available, and all full pizzas come with a side of pickled peppers and house-made pizza ranch.

This superhero-themed pizza joint cranks out hero-worthy pies at locations in Little Five Points and Avondale. Specialty pizzas are the draw here, with options like the Cajun—with spicy red pepper sauce, chicken, shrimp, andouille and red onions—or the Sav-veg, a garlic red sauce pie loaded with veggies. Build-your-own pizzas are a fun challenge too, with sauces like Fox Bros. BBQ sauce, pesto and red wine marinara and tons of toppings to choose from. Order takeout or enjoy a spot on the patio.

Vegans have it made at Plant Based Pizzeria, but meat lovers might just enjoy the pies here too. The Hawaiian pizza with pineapple and Beyond sausage and the “meat” lovers options are popular, as is the innovative Georgia Peach pizza with roasted peaches. You’ll find plenty of meat alternatives and vegan cheese among the toppings. Crust is made with spelt flour, and gluten-free options are available. The menu also includes calzones, flatbreads and plant-based burgers.
