1. The treehouse one

Turn an ordinary weekend into a romantic one by staying at the Archimedes' Nest at the Emu Ranch; this whismical structure sits among the trees and contains a luxurious living space that you wouldn't expect just from seeing the exterior. Special features include a reading nook, and bath with a view, an upper deck, an HDTV and a hot tub. When venturing beyond the treehouse and into the acres of greenery, you'll find a flurry of wildlife from turkeys to swans, and of course, emus.

If you're determined to go offline, there's board games, books and a record player to keep you occupied. There's also a double-sided fireplace for moments of peak coziness.

3. The cute one

This log cabin just 30 minutes from Downtown Atlanta looks and feels straight out of a fairytale. Log framed walls, towering stone fireplaces, animal-hide rugs, patchwork quilted beds and rustic pots and pans hanging from the beams in the kitchen give the whole place a homely cosiness. But, there are plenty of mod-cons here too. With retro arcade games, a movie room, a hot tub, an outdoor swimming pool and a fire pit on hand, there’s no danger of being bored here. If you can tear yourself away, the cabin is surrounded by wildlife-filled woodland ripe for exploring.

4. The out-of-town lakeside one

The word ‘cabin’ can suggest a bit of back-to-basics living. But not with this one. Located about an hour from Atlanta, this home-for-eight is threaded through with life-is-good comforts. The main living space is a soaring wooden structure of light, air and super-snuggly sofas and the kitchen feels like its crying out for someone to bake an extra-large cherry pie in it. But the real attraction of this place is its lakeside situation, complete with private dock and a sizeable boathouse containing kayaks, paddleboards, fishing equipment and other fun accessories for using on the water. Oh, and the views across it are pretty nice too.

5. The really tiny one

Tiny houses have become super popular in recent years, and this one – complete with pop-up TV, coffee machine, and fire pit – is the perfect introduction. Its chic, wooden design will appeal to the stylish minimalist, but there are plenty of amenities to keep it comfortable. Four miles from downtown Atlanta, and three miles from Grant Park Zoo, it’s comfortably close to amenities without actually being in the center of town.

12. The farmhouse one

Here’s a seriously stylish twist on the term ‘farmhouse’. A wooden cottage with rusted tin roof, this home has been meticulously constructed from a number of other historic buildings in the area, including a Civil War-era home, an old cotton mill and an early 20th century school house. There are also stained glass windows and some neat metal kitchen cabinets dating from the 1940s. We love the pretty almost seaside-like décor of the rooms, especially the bathroom, and that priceless feeling of peace and quiet.

What it is, though, is a beautiful, geometric space with an ample courtyard, meaning you can relax in the gardens while also being close enough to the city. Plus, it’s really reasonably priced.
