And now, the Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards has revealed a brand new list of the best hotels in Asia for 2024. The winner? China's The Sukhothai Shanghai.
The World's 50 Best Hotels list leans on the opinions of 600 industry experts, but if you're keen to hear what fellow travellers think, then the Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards is your go-to. This year, it surveyed 575,048 readers, who cast votes for their favourite hotels, resorts, cruise lines, cities, countries, and more based on lists prepared by Condé Nast Traveler. In the hotel category, readers rated candidates on relevant criteria like rooms, facilities, activities, and services using a five-point scale. These ratings were then averaged and converted into a final percentage to determine the best hotels list.
The Sukhothai Shanghai scores near full marks, with 99.89 percentage points. Opened in 2018, this contemporary design hotel sits amidst the luxe malls, trendy cafés, parks, and temples of the city's Jing'an district. There's lots to love about it too, from its modern pads filled with custom-designed furniture to its Thai and Italian fine-dining restaurants. Next is Japan's Park Hyatt Kyoto, a charming hillside guest house that embodies the deep spirituality of its host city. Readers picked The Sukhothai brand again in Bangkok, showing particular love for the signature rice dumplings at the restaurant Celadon.
Galle Face Hotel emerged as the best hotel in Sri Lanka with 99.33 points, while The Landmark Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong was tipped for its impeccable service. At the same time, Shangri-La Singapore was voted the best in the island city thanks to its thoughtful community engagement.
