From Clockenflap in Hong Kong to Wonderfruit in Thailand, there's no shortage of music festivals to check out in the region. And one that's coming up fast is Joyland Festival Jakarta, a three-day music festival at the end of November. The festival has just released its third and final line-up, and it's safe to say that they have a star-studded crew to light up the stage. Here's a teaser: one stage will feature an exciting collaboration between a South Korean and a Taiwanese indie band.

Need a reason to head to Jakarta this November? Read on for why Joyland Festival Jakarta is your answer.

What is Joyland Festival?

It's one of the most iconic music festivals in Indonesia, that's what. Joyland Festival is held twice a year in Indonesia – once in Jakarta and once in Bali – but it wasn't always that way. The festival began way back in 2011 at Djarkata Artmosphere and was held in Jakarta till 2013, before it was brought back again in 2019 by Plainsong Live Production. It only debuted in Bali in 2022 (after a hiatus during the Covid-19 pandemic) and has grown from strength to strength since, scoring high-profile mainstream and indie acts like Cornelius, Years & Years, Interpol, James Blake, and Kings of Convenience.

Where and when is Joyland Festival Jakarta 2024?

This year, Joyland Festival Jakarta 2024 will be held on November 22, 23, and 24, 2024. It will be held at Gelora Bung Karno Complex, a sports complex in Senayan, Jakarta.

Who is headlining Joyland Festival in Jakarta?

You can look forward to a pretty sick line-up this year. Catch headliners St. Vincent and Air on day one, Hyukoh and Sunset Rollercoaster on day two, and Bombay Bicycle Club on day three. Other popular acts include American indie rock band Real Estate, South Korean indie rock band Silica Gel, alternative K-pop music collective Balming Tiger, and Japanese instrumental band MONO.

Reppin' Indonesia are rock band Efek Rumah Kaca, jazz and soul group Maliq & D'Essentials, funk supergroup Ali, and more. More talent will also be playing at the Lily Pad Stage, curated by White Shoes & The Couples Company, to showcase emerging and experimental bands and DJs from Indonesia and worldwide. Local talent to look out for include Asa Kusumah, Bosborot, The Cottons, and Jakarta-based rock legends .FEAST in their Joyland Festival debut.

What fringe activities can I look forward to?

What makes Joyland Festival—and any festival—great are the vibrant art, culture, and entertainment activities to explore between music acts. At Joyland Festival Jakarta, there's tons for festival-goers to check out—kids included.

There's the White Peacock family activity area in the Indoor Tennis Stadium, where adults and children alike can go crazy with art journal collage classes, Japanese book cover sewing and painting workshops, and even fairytale readings and singalongs by Sal Priadi and Maliq & D'Essentials respectively. Then, there's Shrooms Garden – basically, comedy central packed with side-splitting stand-up acts by the likes of Musdalifah Basri, Nopek Novian, and Rigen Rakelna.

Film buffs will also want to catch short films at the outdoor cinema Cinerillaz. Celebrated scriptwriter and director Joko Anwar curated these short films – and they're good enough to have made the rounds at prestigious international film festivals. You can also discover your next favourite local brand at the Joyland Village Foods & Goods Market or catch the exciting final round of the Joyland Checkmate! chess tournament.

How much are tickets?

Joyland Festival Jakarta 2024 tickets are now in Phase 5 of the pre-sale.
